Frank Kowchevski is the algebra teacher at William McKinley High School. He is portrayed by Steve Bannos.

Character[]

Mr. Kowchevski comes across as an unyielding faculty member and often times laments his job. He is the coach for the Mathletes, however, and seems to find great joy in the prospect of the Mathletes winning competitions.

Pre-Teaching Career[]

It is mentioned that Kowchevski served in the Vietnam War, and he was particularly displeased with soldiers that joked around. According to him, "those were the kind of men who got you killed!" For this reason, he hates students like Daniel Desario, who Mr. Kowchevski wants expelled from school.

Biography[]

In the "Tests and Breasts" episode, Mr. Kowchevski is fed up with Daniel constantly skipping and failing his math class. Mr. Kowchevski states that if Daniel doesn't pass an upcoming test, then he has to repeat math class by the following year. Lindsay offers to help Daniel study for the test in the library and at her house. Instead, Lindsay finds herself assisting Daniel to cheat after Daniel manages to steal a test from the teacher's office, and he asks Lindsay to help him fill in the answers. Mr. Kowchevski, suspicious of Daniel's surprisingly high grade, accuses the duo of cheating. When Lindsay becomes unsure of what to do, Daniel tells her they should deny everything.

Regardless, they are both sent to Mr. Kowchevski's office, where Lindsay's parents and Jeff Rosso are there and Mr. Kowchevski tests Daniel to see whether or not if he is cheating by passing his test. Daniel has trouble with taking the test, and he talks about how he was viewed as being a dumb or failure kid for not getting good grades as the normal kids and the smart kids back in his middle school. Hysterically, Lindsay bursts out laughing, confusing Daniel, Lindsay's parents, Jeff, and Mr. Kowchevski and causing the adults to argue with each other about Lindsay.

In the "Looks and Books" episode, Mr. Kowchevski is briefly seen coaching the Mathletes, especially Lindsay and Millie Kentner, against prep school in the math competition.

Trivia[]

According to series creator, Paul Feig, Mr. Kowchevski was gay, which was originally included as a storyline in The Little Things^[1]. A deleted scene about this can be found on YouTube, where he comes out to Ken.
