"No, Neal, I'm not making a mistake, okay?"
Samuel Harold "Sam" Weir is a 14-year-old boy in 9th grade at McKinley High School. He is portrayed by John Francis Daley.
Character[]
Sam seems to act as the leader of the Geeks, and seems to be the least socially inept of the group. Sam most willingly extends empathy to those outside his social circle as he does when inviting Maureen Sampson to have dinner with him and his other geek friends at a restaurant as an act of winning her affection and to persuade her to stay away from the jocks and cheerleaders at the school. Not to mention Sam inviting Daniel Desario to play Dungeons & Dragons with him and his other geek friends to form a close brotherly-like bond with Daniel. He spends most of his time with his two "geek" friends, Neal Schweiber and Bill Haverchuck. He is often the subject of ridicule by them due to his often sensitive nature, like refusing to shower at school or not liking Cindy Sanders because they never seemed to be friends at all. This sensitive nature also leads to a lot of harassment from his high school bully, Alan White.
Through his relationship with Cindy, he meets more jocks and cheerleaders and garners their respect. However, he finds them too selfish, and severs all ties with them after he breaks up with her. Throughout the series, he has a clear sense of morals and sense of family. He often has to juggle his loyalties when dealing with his older sister, Lindsay.
